RACE RESULTS – SUPER STREET RACE #3, 4, & 5

6/28/2009

Well, it’s been a month since I have been able to report. I hope all is well with you. JRN Racing has had our share of successes and challenges since we last reported.

The third race of the season on May 16 was a challenging day for the team Dad and Crew Chief Doug had to work all day due to unforeseen issue so all the preps and practice were left up to the drivers Jamie & Randy and our crew Bryan and Jason to tend too. They had their challenges with a bad fuel pump on Jamie’s car and bent up exhaust pipe on Randy’s car. They worked diligently though to overcome these issues. Dad got to the race track with new fuel pump in hand, got it put on before the race, and both were able to race. Because of these issues, Jamie could not qualify and had to start in the back. Both cars ran good during the race with Randy ending up third, and Jamie finishing 11th.

The 4th race of the season was most challenging. Jamie’s car ran well in practice, and allowed us the chance work out the handling bugs. Randy again ripped the exhaust pipe off his car and so much of the day was spent repairing that. Even without practice, he qualified 2nd.

The start of the race was good with Randy quickly over the lead spot. The car was handling good and he was pulling away from the competition. Then the wreck happened at Lap 24. Brother Jamie was in mid pack, when two other cars got under him going into Turn 1. The two other cars had been battling each other. The lead car on his inside then bumped into Jamie halfway through the turn and sent Jamie straight to the outside wall. The car hit hard on the front right corner. Jamie was able to restart the car and drive it to the pits. This set up a restart were Randy lost the lead on the restart and could never re-catch back up. During up his tires, Randy was relegated to a 4th place finish.

A close look at Jamie’s revealed the chassis was bent in two places. Being concerned that we could never again get the car to handle correctly, we made the call to replace or build a new car. The following day we started our search, and quickly came across a rolling Monte Carlo chassis with roll cage provided in a box. The car was straight and the chassis looked good, so therefore we picked up the car.

The 5th race this season was a good day for us. Even though Randy was the only JRN Racing car on the track, he kept up the pace by qualifying on the pole with his fastest time recorded. The race started out with Randy taking the early lead, but a couple of caution early in the race allowed him to be overtaken after some bumping and competitors using the chrome horn. The car ran fine throughout the whole race, and Randy ended up second.

Current Randy is solidly in second in the point’s standings, but unfortunately with Jamie not able to race until his car is finished, he is falling off in the point’s battle.

Jamie’s new car is well underway in construction. The chassis has been cleaned up and the body is ready to go one for roll cage installation. Our plan is to have to car ready to race within a month or so.

Our next race is Saturday, June 27, 2009. Racing starts at 7 pm.
