Welcome Race Fans,
RACE RESULTS – SUPER STREET RACE #6
Greetings Race Fans, JRN Racing had another good showing this past Saturday night with another second place run. Randy ran a great race, staying with the leader throughout the entire race than challenging the leader on the lap last for the win.
We spent most of the day during practice trying out a different set of tires. Those tires were older Hoosier tires we had, but wanted to try them out to see how they compared with the Goodyear’s we run. We were not pleased with the lap times as the car skidded sideways through the turns. Those old tires just did not have any grip left. So, for qualifying, we switched back to our Goodyear’s and immediately set an outside pole qualifying run with a lap time of 19.158 seconds.
During the race, Randy kept the pressure on the leader throughout the whole race. A couple of cautions late in the race set Randy up for a couple of attempts the take over the lead, but with so few laps left, just could not quite get there. Coming out of turn 4 on the last lap, the Leaders car stumbled a little, and Randy being right behind him gave him a nudge. This caused the leader to get somewhat sideways coming to the line, but Randy had backed off to keep from wrecking anyone and allowed the Leader to gather himself back up for the win. Randy crossed the line second, with no challenge from any cars behind.
The race recap from Langley’s website is as follows:
“Ryan Nester took the lead on the second circuit, then held off Randy Sample’s last-lap charge, and ran his unbeaten streak to six in the 50-lap Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Street feature.
Nester started on the pole, at 74.630 mph, but gave way to Sample, his front-row colleague, as the green flag waved. He rallied on the second lap, though, ducking under Sample at the entrance to Turn 1 and pulling ahead off the second corner.
Nester was clinging to a two-length advantage when the first caution flag flew on lap 15 for debris in Turn 3. Setting the lineup, Nester and Sample ran 1-2, followed by Randy Akers, Sean Calway and Jeramie Wood.
Back under green, Nester quickly regained his two-length edge, while Calway worked on Akers for third. By the halfway mark, Nester’s lead had grown to nearly half a straightaway.
Deeper in the field, Larry Venable, who got shuffled out of line in the early going, picked off Wood to move back into the top five. Meanwhile, Sample was beginning to close in on Nester.
The second caution flag appeared on lap 38 when Dale Parro spun off Turn 2. Lining up for the restart, a lapped machine separated Nester and Sample.
As the race resumed, Sample easily cleared the slower car and only lost one car-length to the leader. He was still within striking distance when Michael Farmer parted company with his right-rear wheel in Turn 3 to bring out the final caution flag at lap 44.
On the ensuing restart, Nester opened a two-length margin over Sample, who quickly narrowed the gap. As they received the white flag, Sample was within half a car-length of the leader’s rear bumper.
Exiting Turn 4 for the last time, Sample made contact with Nester and the leader’s car skittered sideways. In a display of good sportsmanship, Sample backed off and allowed Nester to gather his machine.
At the finish, Nester was the winner by 0.671-second — about two lengths — over Sample. Calway was third, followed by Akers and Jonathan Mullett.”
Current Randy is solidly in second in the point’s standings, but unfortunately with Jamie not able to race until his car is finished, he is falling off in the point’s battle.
Jamie’s new car is well underway in construction. The chassis has been cleaned up and the body is ready to go one for roll cage installation. Our plan is to have to car ready to race within a month or so.
Our next race is Saturday, July 11, 2009. Racing starts at 7 pm. Please come and join us.
